Hi All,

I was a reformed gambler following a course of one to one sessions. 4 years ago following a stag a fell back into my old habits. Today i left a betting slip in my wallet, half hoping my wife would find it. She did. I was able to admit to her that i had racked up some large debts. Having supported me through my first addiction i'm unsure that she will able to stand by me through this. we have two young children of 8 and 5 so will fully understand if she doesn't. the stress of the dreaded secret contributed to me having a heart attack last novemeber.

I'm scared and apprehensive about the future, especially with my family.

However i know what happen today is the best thing for me and hopefully the start of a new positive journey.

Hiya ab80

I get you my friend it's the uncertainty that's in that head no second guessing just have to get back to your gamble free life as that's what it is when we don't gamble a life. Just sign up to what ever is going to help you let your partner see how committed you are to get out of this addiction again as that's what it is an addiction and sometimes It creeps back up on us it's how we react that makes the difference and we all make mistakes only human get back on the road to recovery

Get to a GA meeting, make it part of your week and try and change your behaviour rather than just putting up barriers. Don't get me wrong, barriers to prevent us gambling are a vital tool in this battle but unless we honestly look at the causes and try and change our behaviour we have little chance of beating this.

I was the same as you , I too relapsed during a Stag weekend. If Im honest though when I look back I could have prevented this, I think deep down I knew I would relapse. I knew I could partially blame, alcohol, others gambling etc. GA meetings and the 12 step recovery will give you the tools to tackle this
