So my issue has always been the slot machines at the bingo hall, I would go and play between games, I never touch machines anywhere else. I once played online slots for about 2 months but stopped and havent been back on.

The problem is I have been invited to a friends bingo party the end of March.  I know none of the people who will be going play slots and we will be far away from the machines. But I'm worried it's too soon to be in the place that might be a trigger. Also I know that bingo is still gambling. But unlike the slots will cost alot less.

What would you do ?

Dear @clairepotter,

This is a good question and generally we would advise against a visit to a gambling establishment, just to keep safe.

If this is a social event like a birthday or a hen-do one way of avoiding any temptation would be to just mention to your friends you are not gambling. I appreciate that coming clean completely to an entire group might be difficult, but perhaps you can talk to one friend, maybe give her some money to buy drinks on your behalf and then be safe for the rest of the evening. But ideally you could suggest an alternative location to socialize in as a group away from gambling.

Hope this helps.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery,

Eva

Hard choice, I had a similar problem where my mate had a stag do at the races. I just set myself limits on what I could spend and tried to remind myself the day was for my mate and I didn't want to ruin that by acting in a way they might see something was wrong. Go with them and have a blast, but the time your all having a drink and laugh at the bingo you may even forget about the slots? X

I was asked to a casino by friends recently.. I declined and said yes to a night or dinner out. Said my finances needed to be directed elsewhere and my casino dsys over.. You have to shield yourself from potential harm

Take care

Boo ?

Hi, thanks for the advice, I spoke to my friend and I am going to give him just a small amount of money for drinks and leave the rest at home, no bank card aswell. I have been before with the same group of people an never gone on the slots because they dont, I have a few weeks to think about it.

How did you feel when you were at your friends stag do ?
