Hi guys

You know, in a way we are the lucky ones - by coming on here. It shows we know we have a problem and are trying to address it. Just think of all those lost souls who are gambling day in day out without realising they have a problem, just wasting time and money - used to be us BUT NOT ANYMORE.

Keep your heads up and keep moving forward.

Will try to post everyday, last time I went on a marathon gamble free time I found posting on here regularly was the key.

Forgot to mention why I am on here, it's the FOBT's aka bookies roulette machines - ever heard of them?

Question, do we want to be 'mug punters' to give the people in charge of gambling organisations a lavish life style?

Hey Shaun. I wish you the best in your journey to overcome this. I have been a huge mug in this, I only hope that I do not become one again.

Best wishes Sha999 . Take it one day at a time . I briefly flirted with FOBTs and yes roulette in particular. Scary things that you can easily get sucked into .

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for the post on my diary. FOBTs are awful machines, companies being paid mega bucks to make them addictive, to appeal to people like us. Putting in loads of 'near misses' to fuel our gambling brain. Awful! I read on here someone describing them as reverse cash machines, couldn't sum them up any better and helps me when I get urges to reaffirm in my mind that there is only one way my cash will be going!

Keep up the good work

Regards

Hi all

At present the govt is reviewing FOBT's with a decision later due this month, they are deciding on stake reduction anywhere from £50 to £2. The bookmakers are arguing reducing the stake to £2 will cost thousands of jobs, the reverse argument is that the law in this country is max stake on any machine is £2.

My view, it should be £2 but if it is going to be higher then they belong in a casino.

Any thoughts?

Hi Shaun

Thanks again for the post on my diary. In realtion to the above post, I couldn't agree more! To bet £50 with a chance of repeating that bet in seconds is criminal and has no place in a bookies. Fair enough in a casino as you know what you are getting yourself in to in a casino. But my problem is that I see loads of young lads coming in to bookies in groups to put weekend match bets on, which is fine, but they then have a go on the FOBTs. This is where anyone who is suspetable to addiction will start to get hooked. Exposing them to these stakes is just too much.

Its frustrated that the government often side with the bookies as it generates extra taxes for them.

Bottom line, if you want to bet big go to a casino

Hi James

So true, if you sign up you can play £100 a spin. If you get chance google FOBT's big losses, one bloke did 10K in one session.

As for the boookies, on a Saturday around 2pm when lots of people come in to place footy bets, there is often a competition where by giving you free spins on the machines they see who gets the highest wins and there is usually a prize of free bets.

One of the staff have told me that it is an initiative by head office to 'encourage more people playing FOBT's'.

Hi Shaun,

thanks again for the post on my diary. Well done on getting through another weekend gamble free. It is really nice not have have the lies and stresses of gambling, hopefully this will make the urges easier to deal with in time as gambling becomes less attractive over the gamble free life.

Keep up the good work

Hi all

Yes James it is nice not to lie to our loved ones about our problems, the endless hours I have wasted after a big loss, shifting money from one account to another, going into town to the bank and getting a print out of the statement so my destructive behaviour won't show on the statement we get through the door, etc, etc.

Oh yes, I have done it all.

Hi Sha999

Best wishes for your gamble free 2018 & hopefully gamble free life.  Looking at your earlier post about FOBT machines.  I personelly never played them.  Horse racing & virual was my downfall, however I always got to see the people playing them.  A lot of anger, deperation  and stupidity is what I saw in their faces, very rare to see a smile.

Hi guys

Funny, over the weekend there was a rumour that the stake will be cut on FOBT's to £2. On Monday *********, ************ etc saw £300 million wiped off their shares. Forcing Ladbroke to issue a statement saying that the stake reduction of £2 was just a rumour.

The bookmakers also stated that if there was a stake cut then we may go to litigation as hundreds of shops will close. They are desperate for the status quo to remain on FOBT's, this just tells me that they see us as mug punters and the FOBT's as cash cows!

Hi Shaun,

Thanks again for the post on my diary. Good news regarding the FOBTs and really hope that it goes through. I love nothing more than a bookies closing down. To see loads of them closing on a high street would be amazing.

Keep up the fight

Hi diary

Everyday not gambling is a victory for all of us and our famalies. So much more we can do with our money and not forgetting how better we feel mentally.

When we get urges, just motivate ourselves by thinking about the moment after a big loss, losing hundreds/thousands and finding we haven't got the money for a Big Mac. Going home and biting the heads of those that dearly love us over trivial things. Not forgetting that horrible feeling of laying in our beds at night and the pain feeling like somebody is slashing us, waking up multiple times and thinking 'why did I do it'. The next few days walking around like zombies, the list could go on and on, feel free to add anything you like.

A bit strong but if it helps us, why not.

Hi Shaun

Can relate to all those feelings as most on here will. It is an awful feeling of desperation, disappointment and sadness when we come to the end of a gambling binge, feelings I don’t miss in the slightest.

That is why we need to stay strong, for our loved ones, and our own sanity and self respect.

Each day GF is a victory for us and a loss for the bookies - win win!

Hi Diary,

All good, don't want to gamble because I don't want to risk having that horrible, horrendous feeling after a loss. Bookies aren't having my money, no way.

One day at a time and everything will fall into place.

Hi Shuan

Well done on getting through 31 days gamble free. Just keep on your guard and don't let any silly little urges get the better of you. This nearly happened to me this week and was a reminder how easy it is to get tempted by an urge to gamble.

Keep up the good work, you're doing really well!

Hi Shaun

Well done on 36 days gamble free. You're right to think that caution is key at this stage, we must remain on our guard at all times and never think we are back in control. You must start to see so many benefits from not gambling now and hope this will help with any urges you have to gamble.

Keep up the fight

Hi guys

The start of another gamble free week for us all, must admit, never found giving up gambling as easy as I am now, maybe this is it!

What has helped is my thing was bookies roulette machines and nothing else, now that I have read countless diaries coupled with my own research, I have come to the conclusion that they are nothing but glorified fruit machines. Yuccckkkk!

Wow!

I went into town today knowing I need to steer clear of bookies, it's only when you look around then it hits you, there are so many of them cluttered in a small amount of space. Within 5 streets there are 4 W*****m H***s.

Most rely on the FOBT's (I know as I have it confirmed), what is going to happen to the bookies when/if the stake is reduced from £100 to the reportedly £2.

Stay safe, we are not going to gamble today.

Hi guys

All is well, can't help noticing but I always have a little extra in my wallet these days. If I get tempted to have a gamble, I think of a big loss I have had in the past and that horrible feeling coupled with regret of all the things I could have brought with the money - brings it all home.

Hi Shaun well done on your gf days really pleased for you, read your diary and totally agree, all the bad stuff that comes with gambling is huge and we do well to remember how we felt. Its only since coming on here I learnt what the stake can be for FOBTs it’s disgusting terrible thing, I’ve lost so so much by betting £20s £50s on online slots those FOBTs are evil to take so much just like the online slots where you can deposit as ‘little’ as a fiver, course then with us as cgs we keep putting more and more and can’t stop. I feel so sorry for ppl who’ve lost £10k in just one session they all should be banned full stop. It’s destroying so many ppl. Best wishes to you on your gf life :)

Well done opn getting to 52 days gamble free, big mile stone of half a century has been completed. Big congrats for going in to town and not gambling, i think this is so hard as a compulsive gambling, especially when FOBTs were your vice. Hi guys

The govt are reviewing FOBT's, Philip Hammond wants the stake to be £20 because it will not effect taxation and bookies win because the majority of players already play £20 max per spin, meaning no shop closures and profits up. However, the stop the FOBT's want it reduced to £2 a spin.

Interesting how it is going to pan out, decision due in the summer.

Stay safe and remember, no gambling today.

Hi all

Don't it feel good knowing here we are at the start of another weekend and we will be gamble free. No more losing hundreds on those dreaded machines chasing that green zero, oh no, £13 on zero, the ball lands on 26 and then 32, on both I have only 40p splits!

No more running to and fro endless cash machines only to find out someone is on my machine!

Roll forward to Saturday evening, sitting in the living room with family, smiling, pretending to be happy but inside feeling someone is slashing me.

Do I miss those days, do me a favour.

Stay happy guys and remember, we are not gambling today.

TIMES UP FOR THE BOOKIES!

I was in Birmingham city centre yesterday, family shopping so I spent the best part of 5 hours walking around, my research has told me their are approximately 55 bookies in the vicinity of the Bull Ring. As I was walking around I couldn't help notice that there were so many empty shops with the staff amusing themselves by being on their phones or drinking coffee. In nearly all those shops the dreaded FOBT's were just standing there with nobody playing them, it was a refreshing sight.

In days gone the bookies were full with people queuing up to play on them, looks like the threat of stake reduction is having its effect already. I know someone who is a area manager of a big chain of bookies and he has told me that if the stake is cut dramatically then there will be hundreds of shops closing.

The bookies have had a good run but like all things, everything must come to an end.

By the way, I stayed gamble free and treated myself to a full body Thai Massage - sensational.

Hi guys

Nothing new to report other then I am gamble free, have a double header this week, going to two different towns shopping with family. Don't feel bothered about gambling anymore but that could not be a good thing, if you catch my drift. Everytime I come away from these excursions safely I put a little money away as to reward myself for not gambling, a nice couple of hundred pounds I have accumulated.

No gambling for us today.
