Hi, only joined here a few days ago after nearly a year back on gambling. I had stopped for 5 months and it didn’t bother me......then 1 trip to the bookies set me off on a £20k debt. Luckily I got a win to clear this.......3 bank overdrafts and a loan. So close to losing my girlfriend, amazing 3yr old son and our family business. Enough is enough and now it’s been 3 days without a bet which is a great achievement for me since I was used to putting on about 10 or more football bets a day. I’m lucky to be debt free but I’ve been in this position before so I know how easy it is to start again. This time after being 20k in debt which is the most I’ve been in debt and it scared me so much, I’m confident I can conquer this nightmare. I’ve too much to lose and I don’t mean money. Marching through day 4 without a bet :-)

Another gf day so far :-) I’ve been busy since first thing this morning so no time to think about gambling today. I’m now nearly 5 days gf and haven’t even been tempted to put a bet on. I know how much hurt and pain this will cause the people I love and care about. I’ve already lost the trust and this hurts but I’ve only myself to blame. I just need to keep strong and battle each day with gambling blinkers. Still a long way to go but I’m determined I will get there :-)

I’ve just put Gamban onto my phone. Tried a few gambling websites to see if it worked. Yes it didn’t allow me access which is brilliant. However, was just thinking, if I really wanted to gamble again I could just remove gamban from my phone, so not really sure what the point of these block softwares are for?

Ideally you could get someone you trust to put the gamblock on and then let them set the password and use their email adress, incase you were tempted to click the "forgt password" button.

Maybe ask a loved one who has lost their trust in you, them seeing you actually taking positive steps will help rebuild the trust.

Graet to see you've had 5 days gf though.

Cheers Geordie, this gamban never asked for password or email set up, it just downloaded onto my phone. I have just removed it from my phone to try something and now I can get access to the gambling sites again. Not tempted but just want something in place to block sites for safety.

Ooops my mistake gamban does have a page for email and password so I will get my girlfriend to set this up.

Another day nearly over and another day gf which makes 6.

Took another step forward and printed off both my bank balances for my girlfriend. This will be a weekly check for her to see that I’ve not gambled. Saturday tomorrow which is usually my worst day for gambling as lots of football matches worldwide for me to bet on. Thankfully this weekend is going to be busy for my business as it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday so I’m hopefully going to be too busy in my shop to even think about gambling never mind having the time to put bets on. Still haven’t been tempted so feeling good within myself :-)

Im taking small positive steps but probably need to talk more, however, I’m not really good at talking about my thoughts and feelings to people so this part of the recovery could be tricky.

On day 9 gf after a busy weekend with work and family which has meant no time to even think about gambling, so that made it easier as weekends are usually my busiest gambling days. Being debt free I think helps as I no longer need to chase the money now which is what I ended up doing. So I’m not as desperate to put on bets to try and win money for my debts.

12 days without a bet......2 weeks ago I wouldn’t believe it was possible lol. Almost the weekend so that will be another big challenge......got through it last week so I’m confident I can do it again. It helps that my girlfriend had block internet access on my phone so I can’t get into any gambling sites (or any other sites without unblocking them first lol). It’s not a nice feeling that this has to be done but it’s the only way I can assure myself and girlfriend I won’t be tempted to gamble again.

I haven’t spoken with anyone yet about my problem as I’m not really good at talking with people about my feelings. I know my girlfriend is desperate for me to talk it over with someone, although she is still pleased with the actions I’ve taken so far. I’m not sure talking face to face with someone will be anymore helpful than what I’m doing now as they can only tell me what I already know. I believe it’s only me that can stop myself from gambling again, however, advice and encouragement from the forums here is greatly helpful. Even with all the stops already in place and sending my girlfriend my bank statements every week, I know there are ways to still gamble if I really wanted. It’s down to me to fight the temptations which I’m now confident I can :-)

Well done Grant, you're making the right move by installing gamban. I have it myself and it's brilliant!

All the best.

Cheers Jayden,

Yes having no internet access is definitely worth it. Also coming here to updating my recovery diary and talking with people and getting encouragement from people like yourself is a big boost.

Thank you.

Now 14 days gf which includes 2 weekends (hardest 2 days for me due to all the football). Couldn’t even tell you what games were playing or any results (except my team.....unfortunately lost). Feeling good as yesterday was quite quiet in my shop and that’s when I would usually go online and start gambling on the football.

Stay strong....stay gamble free :-)

21 days now and still no urges. Most of the time I don’t even know what football matches are playing anymore. I used to be able to tell the full weeks fixtures.

I’ve sent an email to a counselling company and hope to arrange an appointment tomorrow to take my journey to another level.

Stay strong....stay gamble free :-)

Hi Grant.2312

It's great to hear that your recovery is going well. You were saying that you've contacted a counselling company, which is a good next step. Did you know that we offer free counselling in England, Scotland and Wales? You can find out more about our free counselling at our website:

Hope to be on here a bit more now and I still trying to find time to speak with someone regarding my problem. Hopefully that will be soon .

It’s been a very long time since I’ve logged on here. Life is very good and very busy so gambling had not been an issue and never a thought in my mind. Can’t believe it’s been 117 days.......amazing. Still waiting for counselling. It’s been 2 months since registering with them but spoke with them today and I’m next on the list. They are very busy but said hopefully won’t be long now. I feel I’m dealing with my gambling problem very well so waiting for counselling hasn’t really been an issue although I’m sure it will still give me support and important advice to stay gamble free. Hope to be on here more often like I used to when I first registered.

Stay strong.......stay gamble free :-)
