Joined this site a few minutes ago . My post in the new members forum is titled 'again' so this is day 1.
I've just drawn out money from a cash machine and walked past a bookies to take it home. So far so good . It's a start I suppose. I will be totally honest on here . No point lying.

Day 2 morning. Felt sick since I woke up thinking of the money lost . Really want this feeling to wear off but I suppose this is the punishment I deserve .

Welcome to the diaries Wittle and congratulations on accepting you have a compulsion to gamble. Now is a good time to stop throwing your money away. Overcoming gambling addiction is a massive challenge but it can be done.

We have to draw a line and leave gambling in the past. Accepting that monies we have lost are gone forever is imperative to our recovery. It is a bitter pill to swallow but the alternative is to chase our losses and lose even more money.

Wishing you every success in rediscovering your life and finding your freedom. The freedom to live the life of your choosing and not the miserable existence of a gambling addict.

Wittle,

As the Stoical One says, do not dwell on past losses. They are gone and you will never win them back.

If you are serious about recovery then there is no reason to feel guily - we did not choose to be come addicts. Do not be hard on yourself.

The early days are tough - keep fighting - take each day as it comes - and before you know it you will have cranked up a few weeks and you will already feel the benefits of being gamble free.

Take pride in recovery and keep posting. There is a lot of support here and a lot of people who want you to succeed.

Thank you guys . I'm going to give this a really good try . I'm totally determined to never feel like this again . I've wrote various checkpoints in my diary starting just with this Saturday when I'm off on a night out. I'll just concentrate on these one at a time .

Thank you positive action . Some brilliant advice and words of encouragement. So true too . I intend posting on here every day , it'll give me incentive to have only good news to tell by not gambling. Today I'm feeling down, trying to forget what happened Sunday and Monday but can't seem to shake it off . Busy at work today and have planned things for my day off tomorrow to keep busy and take my mind off gambling. The sun is shining and it makes you realise there's so many nice things you could be doing with your time rather than standing in a grotty bookies feeding notes into a machine . Onwards and upwards.

Well done mate, didn’t realise you had a diary outside of the new members section, I posted a longer post on there with a few words of encouragement and a bit of insight after one your previous posts hit home with me, give it a read and respond here if that’s more convenient, I know it’s not ideal to having more than one active thread.

I know it’s hard but try to that chin up, everyone has issues and this is ours, we know what we must do so let’s execute our plans and march on.

Hi progress thanks yeah I read it, great to have some encouragement. I got through the weekend so still on track I've got my sights on my next check point now which is next Friday. Feel a bit better today but can't afford any slip ups. Here's to a gambling free week for both of us .

Watch all the marvel cinematic universe films then watch avengers infinity war on Thursday, that will keep you busy until Thursday and by then you'll probably think about gambling less :)

Well that went spectacularly wrong last night . Had to wait 25 mins for a bus so decided to wait in a bookies . 800 pound later . Back to square one . Was doing so well and on day 14 . I feel like such an idiot . Work all week is going to be hard , mind constantly thinking of it.

Day 3 . God this seems so stupid that I was at this stage a few weeks ago . It's horrible wishing your life away but I'm going to do this . It feels like last chance and I intend to take it . Roll on the summer with a few wages in the bank that haven't had a massive hole blown in them from gambling .

Remember you writing on my diary when I relapsed a couple of weeks ago

‘Bloody ell. Well shake your head and try again . You can do this’

You can too, am on nine days GF now! Was an expensive bus to wait for but just make sure is your last! Don’t be too hard on yourself, at least you come on here and admit it...! Keep strong, keep thinking of warm days in the summer, being GF and enjoying yourself and not stood in a rotten bookies desperate for a win that will never be enough xx

Hi Wittle,

Good on you for continuing to come back on here and not giving up.

A wise woman on here often says...nothing changes if nothing changes.

What are you going to do differently this time?

Will power will play a massive part in your journey to stop gambling but give yourself a chance, get those blockers in place. Call 0800 294 2060 and get yourself excluded from the bookies in your area. Get yourself registered on gamstop. Close as many avenues as possible.

You will always be able to find ways around these blockers but at least you will give yourself a bit of time to think about what you are doing.

The changes you need to make are all in your hands.

Damo

Cheers pal . I've done some changes that I think should be enough now . I did have some accounts still open that I didn't think I'd use . These have been closed now. I've told my friend about my problem and he's promised to ring me every day and ask if I've gambled or not. I swore that I'd be honest with him . I'm not taking much money out now and definitely not my debit cards . I can't go through this feeling again although I remember saying this same thing a few weeks back. I get paid next Wednesday so that's my first checkpoint . I've got to do it this time , I realise I'll just lose everything I have if I don't stop now . Thanks for your comment .

Good to see you've navigated through the first few days wittle and worked out some strategies to fend off the gambling urges.

I'm 1 day ahead of you and hope it's like that a year from now. Other people manage to stay gamble free for long periods so we can also.

One day at a time is all it takes

Got to stop the madness for all our sakes

When life looks grim and we're full of dread

Just stick it out 'till it's time for bed

Excellent progress Wittle.

We are both in double figures now and the wind is in our sails.

This is a golden opportunity so we would be well advised to hang on for dear life. Whenever we feel threatened, weak or vulnerable it will be a time to dig our heels in and say NO to the gambling urges. We only have to get through today. We can concern ourselves with tomorrow when it comes ...stephen
