I’m struggling to sleep tonight because of the heat so it’s led me to do some thinking about my past gambling habits.

The question on my mind is this:-

How many people on here would consider it a possibility that they could have gambled more responsibly in the past, IF (and it’s a massive IF)... they hadn’t been exposed to the online casino section of a betting site?

I never signed up to an online site with the purpose of gambling on the casino part of their site. I was only ever interested in the sports-book.

However, I’d get emails/texts tempting me to go and play on their live casino section with free £20’s etc and that’s when it would all start.

I’d maybe lose an accumulator to a late goal or a cricket bet would be lost on the last ball of the game, and I’d then try and make myself feel better by quickly winning my money back on the casino. That would more often than not lead to trouble....

But had I never been introduced to those casino sections of these sites, maybe I would have gambled more responsibly.

Or maybe I wouldn’t. Maybe I was destined to be a compulsive gambler and I’d have found other ways to do my nuts in.

I’m aware that a lot of people on here were only ever interested in Roulette, BJ, Poker, Slots etc to start with,so therefore signed up to these sites for those reasons. But there must have been others, like myself, who signed up with the intention of placing their weekly accumulators, horses etc and ended up being destroyed by the online casino.

It’d be interesting to know the views of others on this one.

I’m in a reflective mood tonight. Actually I have been for a few days now.

On a personal note, I feel quite safe though at the moment. I don’t feel as though a relapse is around the corner because I have no ways I can gamble. Bookies don’t interest me, I find them a bit intimidating and despite finding a few online places to gamble that don’t look as though they’ve implemented GamStop yet, I don’t want to sign up to anywhere using my card. I preferred the anonymity of PayPal.

So I do feel safe, thanks to GamStop.

Hi

Its complex but you can overthink certain things. Its not a get it back later scheme on different forms of betting. Its an addicts delusion that you will quickly win your money back on something else. It cant really hurt delusion that ends up costing us everything

We all had our trigger points and favourite destruction method. The core problem is the same. I was only ever interested in local town slots but it didnt make me clever...that was more than enough to totally destroy me

It will cross your mind but you wont be able to act on it so let it go. Study the addiction in textbooks if you want to think about something related

What you should be thinking about is a 16" pedestal fan...Only £17 and it will be the best thing you buy for summer.

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

Hi Dan

Very intriguing question...

I did what you did re the online casino and probably got hooked in that way I guess...

Anyway to answer your question I reckon eventually I would've just put whoppers on the sportsbook and destroyed myself that way, had I never been introduced to the online casino...

Death by a thousand cuts... But nevertheless I would've probably done myself in that way.

You've made me realise actually that the actually game of roulette itself I detested. But I enjoyed a footy match. But if you gave me the choice I'd take roulette over sportsbook most days. I guess it boils down to the concentration of the dopamine hit ultimately. And I wouldve found the way to access those levels of dopamine through sportsbook using whopping great bets in the end.

Very thought provoking post anyway. Cheers mate.

I think it’s all linked to just the way we are, online casino part was just fuel for the need to gamble, a quick win.

i hate it all now and don’t miss it one little bit
