The majority of GamCare's funds to support problem gambling are acquired indirectly from the gambling industry through voluntary corporate donations made to an independent fundraising body. Following a review of gambling research, education and treatment in 2008, the Gambling Commission appointed a Responsible Gambling Strategy Board to advise on treatment and funding priorities. Two further independent panels raise funds (Gambling, Research, Education and Treat Foundation or GREaT) and distribute funds (Responsible Gambling Fund).
