Gambling Bill Scrutiny Committee publish findings

The Joint Committee on the Draft Gambling Bill released their findings today.

After several months of deliberations the cross-party committee of MPs and peers published its report on plans to overhaul Britain's gambling legislation.

Included in its recommendations were the removal of £5 jackpot fruit machines from takeaways and taxi offices in order to protect children, the capping of the amount of machines allowed in casinos and controls over locations casino can be built.

Importantly other recommendations included the development of social responsibility codes of conduct for the industry to abide by, and the continual funding through the Responsibility in Gambling Trust, of education, treatment and research programmes addressing problem gambling. A new prevalence study is also to be carried out immediately and another in 5 years to assess the impact of the new legislation on gambling behaviour.
