STAFFORDSHIRE JOINS GAMCARE’S NATIONWIDE COUNSELLING NETWORK
28 January 2008
GamCare, the UK’s foremost authority on problem gambling and leading provider of help, support and counselling services to problem gamblers, is delighted to announce that Adsis has joined its nationwide network of problem gambling counselling partners. Adsis was founded in 1986 and is now widely acknowledged as a leading alcohol and drug agency in Staffordshire. A registered charity (Number 10471914), Adsis is the main voluntary sector alcohol support agency providing support from static premises and through an outreach programme into the more rural communities in the county. Like GamCare, Adsis provides information, advice and support, be it by telephone, on a one to one basis or by way of group therapy to anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s misuse of alcohol and/or drugs. All Adsis’ services are provided by a combination of fully trained project staff and volunteer support workers. From its current head office in Stafford, Adsis is relocating to Uttoxeter next month. Adsis is also able to offer services from six static locations throughout the county; in addition, 15 outreach venues are available. The delivery of services on an outreach basis overcomes a significant obstacle to individuals seeking help. Adsis’ team has completed GamCare’s programme of training in counselling for problem gamblers.
Geoffrey Godbold, Chief Executive of GamCare, said: “One of our primary objectives for 2008 is to complete our nationwide network of problem gambling counselling partners. As a leading agency in the county, Adsis is a valuable addition to that network, equipped not only with the requisite counselling skills but a determination to deliver services across Staffordshire, both in urban and rural areas. Adsis’ outreach services are a vital part of the agency’s work. They ensure that obstacles to seeking help, if only of geography, are removed. We look forward to working with our new partner in Staffordshire.”
Cathy Jones, Chief Executive of Adsis, added: “As the only countywide, voluntary sector, alcohol agency and with a strong offering in drug support, the addition of GamCare’s skills in the field of problem gambling will enable us to provide accessible, free and confidential help, support and counselling to anyone who needs it, irrespective of the nature of their problem or dependency. Adsis is proud to be partnering GamCare in Staffordshire.”
