GAMCARE’S NATIONWIDE COUNSELLING PARTNERS EXPAND
11 January 2008
GamCare, the UK’s foremost authority on problem gambling and leading provider of help, support and counselling services to problem gamblers, is delighted to announce that Sussex Breakeven, GamCare’s longstanding regional specialist problem gambling counselling service in Sussex, has opened new counselling premises in Eastbourne. With GamCare’s support, Sussex Breakeven is now able to offer counselling services to problem gamblers across Sussex.
Sussex Breakeven has been providing specialist problem gambling counselling from its premises in Brighton for a number of years. Within easy reach of the train station, the Brighton facility has attracted clients from across West Sussex, including Hastings and Haywards Heath. The opening of the Eastbourne premises, also within a short walk of the station, extends Sussex Breakeven’s reach further east and enables clients and potential clients to access help and support as far afield as the south of Kent.
Sussex Breakeven continues to experience a consistent rise in clients, comprising both problem gamblers and those affected by problem gambling. Funded by GamCare, Sussex Breakeven’s experience reflects the recent experience of GamCare itself; a year on year uplift in clients reflects a greater awareness of the facts, and impacts, of problem gambling.
Geoffrey Godbold, Chief Executive of GamCare, said:
“Sussex Breakeven is unusual amongst our nationwide partners. Founded, like GamCare, solely to provide help, support and counselling to problem gamblers, Sussex Breakeven is the only regional specialist problem gambling counselling service. The expansion of their service is tremendous news for clients in Sussex and the southern parts of Kent who previously had difficulty in accessing such specialist services. I am delighted that Sussex Breakeven is helping GamCare to complete its network of nationwide problem gambling counselling partners.”
Ian Semel, Chief Executive of Sussex Breakeven, added:
“Gambling was much in the headlines in 2007. Whilst for the majority, it is a harmless leisure activity, there are those who get into difficulty or who suffer from the difficulties encountered by people around them. No part of the United Kingdom is immune to this problem. We are thrilled that we are now able to extend our specialist services across the whole of Sussex in order to provide accessible, free and confidential help, support and counselling to anyone who needs it.”
