GAMCARE EXPANDS COUNSELLING NETWORK

19 November 2007

GamCare, the UK’s foremost authority on problem gambling and leading provider of help, support and counselling services to problem gamblers, is delighted to announce that it has partnered with the Addiction Recovery Agency (ARA), to provide the residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and the county of Somerset with access to GamCare problem gambling counselling.

ARA (registered charity number 1002224) is one of the largest voluntary providers of drug and alcohol treatment and support services in the South West. Founded in Bristol in 1987, ARA provides high quality treatment and support services in order to reduce the harm caused by substance misuse and the damage it causes to individuals, their families and communities. ARA also provides specialist residential treatment services for people experiencing drug and alcohol problems.

ARA’s head office is in Bristol, from where gambling counselling services will be provided for residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, making use of local venues as appropriate. ARA’s North Somerset service is based in Weston-Super-Mare from where services for people in North Somerset and Somerset will be provided, again making use of local venues.

The partnership with ARA will provide access to GamCare’s specialist counselling in problem gambling to a large geographic region previously not served by such specialist services.

Geoffrey Godbold, Chief Executive of GamCare, said:

“ARA reaches out to a wide and well-populated area previously without specialist counselling services in problem gambling. With twenty years’ experience in the field of addiction, we are delighted to have such a hugely respected organisation as Partners. This completes one more piece of the jigsaw in terms of our ability to provide local counselling services to any individual with gambling problems across the UK.”

Peter Walker, Chief Executive of ARA, added:

“We are very excited to be the first counselling service in the region to offer GamCare counselling for problem gamblers. This is an important extension of our service and we are thrilled that GamCare recognises our commitment to extend the help we are able to provide to people with a wide variety of counselling needs.”
