GAMCARE EXPANDS REGIONAL COUNSELLING NETWORK TO DORSET
12 September 2007
GamCare, the UK’s leading authority on problem gambling and leading provider of help, support and counselling services to problem gamblers, is delighted to announce that it has partnered with Steven James Practice (www.poolecounselling.co.uk) to ensure the residents of Dorset have access to GamCare counselling.
A registered charity, Steven James Practice was founded in the spring of 2005 to provide counselling services to people affected by blood borne viruses, in particular HIV and Hepatitis C. Initial funding was provided through a lottery grant. Counselling services have subsequently extended to include addiction counselling. GamCare gambling addiction counselling is a natural extension of Steven James’ existing services.
The main Steven James Practice is located in central Poole, within easy reach of Bournemouth. The practice is run by Gerry Jones and Dennis Schroder. Counselling can also be provided from Christchurch, Dorchester, Ferndown, Salisbury, Swanage, Verwood and Weymouth; clients across the whole of Dorset will thus have access to GamCare’s specialist counselling in problem gambling.
Geoffrey Godbold, Chief Executive of GamCare, said:
“We are delighted to get Gerry and Dennis on board to roll-out our counselling services in Dorset. GamCare counselling will soon be available across the whole of the UK, an important objective in the light of the new Gambling Act.”
Gerry Jones, Steven James Practice, added:
“We are very excited to be the first counselling service in Dorset to offer GamCare counselling for problem gamblers. This is an important extension of our counselling offer and we are thrilled that GamCare recognises our commitment to help people with a wide variety of counselling needs.”
