Bournemouth student needs a volunteer to be interviewed!

16 February 2007

Could you tell Andrew Northup your story?

"Hello, I am a final year journalism student at Bournemouth University.

For one of my final projects I am putting together a mini feature documentary about the possible problems that a large gambling establishment may bring to Manchester now it has won the super-casino bid.

I am looking for someone (not necessarily from Manchester) who will be willing to talk openly to me about the problems that gambling caused them, to tell me their story.

The sorts of questions I would like to ask you are:
• How did you start gambling?
• When did you notice (at the time or retrospectively) that you were gambling more and more?
• How did it affect you, and what did you have to do to sustain your habit?
• How did it affect the people around you i.e. family and friends?
• And (only if you feel you are comfortably able) when and what was your lowest point?
• Then, if you did not do this alone, how/who helped you to make a positive change and start recovery?

The format for my report is a radio news feature, say for BBC Radio 4, so I will need to record what you say.

But there can be as much anonymity as you desire. If you don't want your name known, it won't be. Likewise I can change any place names that you mention, and if you don't wish your voice to be heard I can use an actor to repeat what you tell me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
