Can you help? Research in Leeds to understand Internet gambling.

16 November 2006

Researchers from the Social Sciences Institute at the University of Leeds are undertaking research into Internet gambling and the impact it may have on the family.

This project aims to explore whether Internet gambling generates new forms of participation in gambling. Leeds are interested in how the Internet is used in everyday life, in particular, when and how it is used to enable gambling and the issues that may arise from this form of participation.

There are two phases of the research:
1) There is an online survey, which should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Anyone who gambles on the Internet, or has gambled on the Internet, can complete the survey, anonymously if you prefer. This can be found at: www.survey.leeds.ac.uk

2) There is an opportunity to be interviewed. If you have experienced difficulties arising from Internet gambling Leeds would like to interview you twice over a period of three months and request an interview with a member of your family, if this is appropriate. If you are willing to be interviewed about your experiences or have any questions please contact Dr Charlotte Kenten: c.kenten@leeds.ac.uk or 0113 343 8294.

This research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Responsibility into Gambling Trust (RiGT). To find out more, please contact Dr Charlotte Kenten by email: or phone: 0113 343 8294

Please note. GamCare is not involved in or responsible for participation or organisation of any part of this research.
