Ok, so here's how it goes....

I started a diary yesterday, to which I vowed to stop gambling.

But, I bought a lottery ticket for this Wednesday night (with a friend) not realising at the time that this constitues gambling.

So, if I'm going to do this properly then I want to start completely clean. I could have quite easily ignored it but I felt like even this was cheating.

So, back to Day 0...

Gambling puts so much unneccesary financial pressure on me. I don't need that kind of stress. I have to make a big, monumental effort to change my lifestyle.

I'll be right there supporting others too! Lets do this journey together people. Let's make this forum a part of our lives. A hobby if you must. A life changing hobby. Lets win this battle!

To add to this, I've decided to make a 'Choosing Life' pot in which I put £1 in it for every day that I abstain from gambling....

This will help to symbolise the fact that for every day I stay gamble free, I'll be 'winning' something and l'm guaranteed to be far better off than when I was gambling.

It'll be nice to see the pot grow and grow over time.

I'm already looking forward to putting my first £1 in tomorrow.

Moorey - I like that idea - my friend suggested that to me the last time I properly tried to give up - I even went out and bought a lovely new jar, but I just did not put much in sadly! I think this time you have inspired me to try again with that idea! Good Luck! x

Yes, it'll give you something to look forward to every night before you go to bed. Knowing that your 'pot' is ever growing because of your achievments. I'm looking forward to putting my first £1 in tonight.

Feeling in a rather reflective mood this morning, asking myself all sorts of questions...

Why do I gamble in the first place?

If I were suddenly to become a millionaire (not sure how!?) would I still have those urges to gamble?

Just a couple of questions that I've been thinking about this morning.

Not really sure of the answers. But for now, I'm happy not to know.

Pay day today.

But today I will NOT gamble.

Today, I will get another £1...

Thanks for the post. Keep on the right track. Get the blocks in place. Do whatever you've got to do, trust me it's worth it. I've had a lot of day ones so I know how hard it can be but if you commit fully it can be done. Best wishes to you

2 days gamble free.

Feels good to get past the 48 hour mark! That was my first target.

It somehow feels better knowing I've put that distance towards my last bet.

Let's do this!...

That's great Julie! :)

Putting that £1 in my jar at the end of the night is my way of telling myself "well done!" for getting through the day gamble free.

It's a reminder of just how much money can be saved from not gambling to buy meaningful things in our lives that we've perhaps been neglecting.

Good luck Julie x

3 days gamble free!!!

Quite a productive day. Finished off tonight with a 10km run!

Really want to get the body I want! Instead, gambling has made me neglect it!

Like many things in life....

Anyway, one more £1 in the jar for me....

Day 4 safely negotiated!...

No real urges as yet but I'm aware they're never too far away.

The key is to make sure I'm ready and prepared for the first set of them.

For now though, I'm happy with how things are going. I've been out for a meal and drinks tonight and have not worried about the money which I could be using for gambling purposes.

Happy weekend everyone!

5 days gamble free.

Had another 10km run today. Watching the footy tonight is tough and is the closest I've come to having the urges to place a bet. But I'm reminding myself of those dark places that gambling takes you.

I'm far happier without gambling in my life, whether I'm winning or losing. It's funny that we still carry on though, despite all that.

How our minds work!...

Anyway, I'm going to celebrate with a pint...of water. On a health kick.

6 days now since my last bet.

The hurt of losing £340 last weekend is beginning to ease.

I've also downloaded an app called 'Quit that' which tells me how much money I've also saved from not gambling.

All in all I'm feeling much happier going into the working week than this time last week. :)

I find it's a great reward for me to end and celebrate the gambling free day.

7th day now complete. A whole week without gambling.

Small beginnings, I know.

But we all have to start somewhere. Onto week 2....

Urges are still there but I have to remember why I want to pack in this evil addiction. The bad times are just too bad!

The 'good' times only lead you closer to the path of doom.

So what's the point. Better to stay happy and gamble free? It's a certain yes!

12 days gamble free.

Still a long way to go for me to go on my road to recovery but it's a start. Pretty pleased with how it's going.

I have money to spend on going out and enjoying myself instead of reloading more and more money onto my betting account.

Had a great night last night!

Today marks two weeks gamble free!

It's only the start though. I have to go on....

I'm generally a lot happier at the moment without gambling.

I still have the urges now and again but I'm reminding myself just how bad I feel when I lose.

Notice I say 'when' and not 'if'.

Day 15 - quite pleased with how things are going at the moment.

I'm not missing or thinking about gambling as much as I thought I would be. Maybe because there's not any football on at the moment.

I'm just taking it day by day.

Any urges that I get, I just remind myself of all the hard work I have put in so far and how I don't want that to go to waste.

17 days gamble free. My previous best over the last 12 years is 28 days.

Although I've only been trying to quit for the last 6 months.

Pretty pleased with how things are going so far.

I've had urges, but I just keep reminding myself of the dark days I had which made me feel utterly worthless.

I keep thinking of the things I can treat myself and the Mrs to in a couple of months if I stay firmly on the gamble-free train.

That excites me and keeps me away from further thoughts of gambling.

£17 I've collected in my jar now.

Doesn't seem a lot, but it's growing. By the day :)

Today I have made it into the twenties.... 20 days gamble free.

I'm pretty chuffed and proud of myself, but I know I must go on.

It's been very difficult to fight the urges at times, but I've come to realise that I've tended to bet due to boredom more than anything else.

I've soon been able to overcome that urge by doing something else. Don't get me wrong, it's not always quite as simple as that.

If so, everyone would find it a breeze. But I always ask myself these questions before thinking about gambling..."How would I feel if I lost?" All that effort would be wasted! Plus I'd be back to feeling miserable and angry with myself.

Why would I want to do that to myself!

"How would I feel if I won?"

Happy at first maybe, but knowing full well that it would eventually end in me feeling miserable and angry with myself.

So how do I win through gambling!? The answer is simple. I don't and I never will.

Gambling will always beat me.

So why bother to challenge gambling in the first place....

I wouldn't fight Anthony Joshua or race against Usain Bolt because I know I'd lose.

Gambling is the same. I will always lose. You all will always lose.

Welcome Hope.

Of course I don't mind. I was in your position 20 days ago, feeling flat as a pancake and as down in the gutter as I could possibly get.

There's nothing you can do to change the past. It's gone!

What you can change is the future. You can make some pretty special things happen if you fully commit to quiting this addiction.

It can be done. There are plenty of people on here who have clocked up some big numbers of staying gamble free. The inspiration is there for us all to see.

Best of luck in your recovery mate.

Make a diary and keep updating your progress. I'll be sure to drop by to see how you're getting on.

The first of many £1's.... :)

Doesn't it feel great to put that £1 into a jar/bag whatever it may be!!!

We often gamble to win and make profit. Well, by doing this £1 a day thing, you're ensuring that you're a guaranteed winner and making profit every day.

Let's stick together and dig deep to fight this addiction.

Numero 22 over and out!...

Not much else to say really.

I'm looking forward to payday in 8 days because I'll have done a whole payday to payday without gambling. At this present time that's a massive achievement for me.

I'm suddenly saving so much money AND being able to treat myself to some nice stuff.

Is that better than spending hours throwing my money away on gambling and feeling utterly miserable at the end of it all.... Hanging on for dear life until next payday?....

I'll leave it with you to decide which is best... :)
