Hi if a loan company is not doing the correct checks surely they've lent the money irresponsibly. This world never ceases to amaze me. Of course people lie to get credit.

Except nobody can challenge it because they would themselves be admitting to fraud.

Incredibly difficult situation to be in. I wouldn't worry too much HowSoonIsNow, they have a LOT more serious cases to worry about. The very, very low chance you were found it I'd simply imagine you'd just be blacklisted from future credit, that is all.

Also.... I've been with Stepchange for a while and they are fantastic. Super helpful at just about everything to do with debt!

Thanks for your replies. That does make me feel a little less worried that I'm going to get some kind of court summons. Just in the process of completing my StepChange form online, it's good to hear positive things about them. I suppose the quicker I get this done, the less I have to worry about.

No one was surprised more Than me when 4 lenders accepted me either. My credit history alone should have meant they wouldn't.

But I suppose it's neither here nor there because ultimately I lied, and I have to take the reaponsibility for that.

Hi,

Please please check out a free website called DebtCamel, owned and run by a retired CAB worker who has some fantastic advice and in plain english, lots of comments boxes available and she (Sara) usually replies quickly.... for the record she is a big advocate of stepchange - but without wishing to get your hopes up, you may even be able to claim a little money back via interest/ charges OR maybe have some of your balances reduced....   please check it out - alongside stopping the gambling....

Hi CG,

I've seen the DebtCamel website, it really is excellent and the advice on there is first-rate. I would, like you recommend it to anyone.

I actually have quite a few unaffordability claims in the pipeline for historic loans I had. I'm grateful that it takes quite a long time to process these claims as I think it's important for myself and anyone else before we receive refunds to have CG under control otherwise the money just goes back to the bookie and we lose a really good op to pay off some debt.

Hi HSIN

I wouldnt worry too much about the views of loan companies because whats done is done. Defaulters are built into their business model

Face this in a born again moment . The CAB are very helpful and will feel someone in on your side in helping you. Its best if you have no access to loans now for a long while

There is even life after bankruptcy and I am allowed a small amount of working credit. I would rather live on a very small amount than be in debt now.

There is help and you cant let debt worry you ill. Although we try and pay our way there is a point where you cant pay. Get some advice but there is no shame in telling the right people that you have had a gambling addiction.

Best wishes

Thanks Joydivider. Wise words indeed!!

In terms of update on the loans situation. They all came back to me and said they would be happy to accept a pay plan with me and Step Change so perhaps there was no need for such anxiety. It's one of those things that I suppose I will be worried about what's coming in the post still for a bit longer. I just wouldn't lie again, it's not worth all this stress. Irrational as it may sound, I genuinely thought a copper was going to turn up and arrest me at some point.

I had spoken to GamCare this week on the phone in a right old panic and we discussed me getting advice from the CAB too so I'm definitely going to look into a time when I can do that.
