Hi All,

My name is javed and i am 24 years old trying to beat a gambling addiction
which i have had since the age of 18 but today i tooken the massive step of starting a recovery diary to beat this addiction. So were do i start it with this ok it all started at the age of 18 went to the bookies with a friend won a bit of money then i thought i would make a killing and i have sussed it but no went back lost more and started chassing losses then i started going to casinos and it got even worse from there as i was gambling all my wages i recieve per month from work then when i had no money left at all i got even more desperate for money i started taking out loans but i used to use the loan money to win my money back and yes at times i have won a lot of money but i have lost more i just want to quit for good now and i know i can do it talking to other gambling addicts about it and getting other peoples opinions and ideas on how others beat this addiction so feel free to share your thoughts. I wake up everyday feeling like to gamble its just really bad. Today is day 1 to beat this addictoon and i will moniter myself with this diary and share how each day goes without gambling i hope.

Hi Javed,

you have been very brave and made a bold step to start a diary to log your thoughts to help you with refraining from gambling.

I wish you very well on your journey and don't ever feel alone.

Hi Javed - a big welcome to the forums and I'm really glad that you've found this place. I wish you all the best beating the gambling addiction - there's a huge amount of support and information here that makes beating it so much easier than doing it alone. I'm only 10 days gamble free but having this place to go to really helps me out.

All the best.

Hi javed,

Well done for your post, and thanks for sharing your story in the forum.

It’s good to know that you’ve taken to post in the forum to help with your journey to recovery. It seems like you’re already getting some support and encouragement from fellow forum members. Opening a diary to monitor your own progress is a strategy of encouragement, and I will advise you to post as often as you can to help lessen the impact that the gambling is having on you. It’s also a way of distracting yourself from the idea of gambling.

It’s been 6 years of gambling for you, and it seems like you’ve had enough of it, and doing what it takes to overcome it.

I’d like you to be aware that Gamcare is ready to help and support you every step of the way if you’d stay in touch with us, and work with the advice that we offer you.

With your determination and the support that you get from us and fellow forum members, you’ll hopefully achieve your aim.

You can also contact us via our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers regarding your gambling problem, and can request for 12 session of free counselling if you feel it would help with your recovery.

Our lines are open every day from 8.00am to midnight.

My best wishes to you.

Kind regards,

Beatrice

Day 3 went well spent most of the day at work and did not think about gambling at all which is great the urge to gamble always come when im bored but i feel depressed as i lost a lot of money few days ago and it will effect me finacially this month as i gambled all my wage but i know i can get through this and stay strong and positive hopefully but i can only just stay patient and strong to beat this if you guys have any ideas to help me out feel free to share. I have no access to my cards i have handed all over to the wife i only keep a bit of cash to last me the day as when i do have a lot of money in my pocket it urges me to gamble and try double it so i think i am on the right track at the moment hopefully i can stick to this.
