Thanks for popping by my diary Anon....I'd stayed away from the forums for a few weeks but I've realised I'm in a much better place mentally when I read the forum regularly & post. That's because of you & others like you who continue to support others while moving forward in their own recoveries....It makes a difference!

Hope you are well & looking after you.

It's been a long time since I posted on here and happy to say still gf and knocking mr g out, also still smoke free.  I have another new granddaughter who is so beautiful, I'm going to enjoy every minute of this one as over the years caught up in the  gambling fog I missed out on precious moments.  That addiction robs you of so much more than money, money you can get back by working, quality time and memories with family you cannot.  WHilst the urges are very rare now they do come occasionally therefore I'm always going to have to be strong and never ever be tempted to spin again!  For anyone new on here just trying to give up, please keep trying because you can do it and life is so much better and clearer.  I'm living now and I've learnt to laugh again x x

Dear diary, an update to say still gf and smoke free: It’s been the best year since 2010, that year I’d come back from a Caribbean holiday, feeling really ill as I arrived at Gatwick airport, being taken straight to hospital after a few weeks it was found I had malaria and had several months off work.  That’s when I first found online bingo through boredom and eventually found online slots which was to take over my life for the next few years until I found this site. During that time I lost large amounts of money through chasing losses which all of us on here can relate to, had large debts but most of all I regret the time I lost with family and friends because you can never get that back.  Walking around with a fuzzy head because your worried about the dir ct debits that are going to fail because mr g has had all your money again (do you hear of many gambling sites or shops closing down.....) no you don’t.  looking in the mirror and wondering who this person is and hating the person looking back at you, no sleep, being irritable.  Making excuses why you carnt go out with friends  etc.,

It’s not only gambling I gave up but smoking too, the time, money location that people on here talk about is sooo true, I now enjoy life, I work full time  but also do charity work, donate money each month albeit a small amount to a national charity, enjoy my grandchildren and quality family time.  Go out for meals, joined a gym and enjoy walking - all sound pretty normal now but whilst in th throws of addiction I couldn’t or didn’t do.  I’ve taken back control of my life and it’s so good, So looking forward to 2018 and two holidays planned which there is no way I could have had whilst still gambling.  I’ve reclaimed laughing and smiling back off mr g because he robbed it off me along with the money.

For people just starting this journey, there is no magic pill, there is no quick route, it is hard at times in the early days but oh so worth it.  You have to put the blocks in place, find th triggers that make you want to gamble, find yourself, opening old wounds can be painful but if you need to address issues try counselling, fight the urges, do other stuff, adult colouring, running, walking etc., make the change!

Best wishes to all for a gamble free 2018 x

Hey anon

Thanks for the post & look at you! WOW such a transformational!

Very well done and I am so so glad you have taken all the advice on board and followed them through. Isn't it amazing to get that normality back ☺

Wish you all the best for 2018, enjoy every minute of your freedom and smile...smile with a heart! You're doing amazing so keep up good work!

Hugs & love

S&B xx

Ps. Couldn't be truer (if that's a word) words: addiction keeps taking - recovery keeps giving"...enjoy, you deserve this gift of life! ☺
