Hi All

I have had a gambling problem since i was 20 years old. I am now 39. Over the last 2 years i have managed to get myself into serious debt. Luckily i have a very understanding family who have helped me out which i am now paying back. My partner also knows everything so i have great support.

So why do i still do it?

My problem is slots online. I have been trying to stop for years. I have excluded myself from casinos but always end up joining another. I also have put filters on my broadband at home which my partner knows the password. I have put blockers on my phone.ipad but my work has given me a samsung tablet which gamban doesnt filter. It also has 4g so i have been gambling again.

I dont even know why i do it. Totally addicted. Today i managed to get back what i had lossed, but ended up blowing the lot so i then chase the amount i just won to cover my losses but end up losing more. It makes no sense at all in why i do it

I need to right all my losses off and start now with a new future of never gambling again.

Nice to get that off my chest

I would really like to chat to other people as i find this forum fantastic, and it makes me feel not as bad and stupid.

It’s a personal decision, of course, but the nature of this site, and the revelations we give, generally make it s bad idea.

Dear Jill, All,

I just wanted to reassure you that the Forum is a space for people to share their experience with problem gambling and receive and offer support to each other in a safe way.

The Forum is also a public space, therefore we discourage people from sharing too many personal details, and everyone can choose to be as anonymous as they like.

It is important for all of us to respect this boundary.

Wishing all of you all the best in your recovery.

All the best,

Eva

Hi Jill, like you my problem was on line slots. I am quite new on here but have found the support invaluable. I read other people's stories and feel so sorry for what they are going through. There is no judgement on here so you can say exactly how you are feeling, what brought you here etc. People on here will always listen and help with different ideas. For the first few days of not gambling I actually felt unwell and very depressed. These awful slots had acted like a friend after losing my Husband, but of course they are not. Even if you have a win, most of the time you put it back. I have lost count of the times I have got into trouble, and somehow managed to sort it out. I have now joined gamstop and as I say it was really weird not being able to do something I had done for years, but today I am feeling better. Fo rthe first time I feel in control and not scared of losing the bill money. I am sure you will find this site really helpful. As I say I am fairly new but there are a lot of good people on here who can give you good advice.

Hi

Hey girl. My name is Jill, Thanks Mixer and Eva for that. I am ok with my first name.

Cassie, thanks so much for replying. I am so sorry you lost your husband. I totally agree its how i switch off. I have always liked playing games and now i can do it and perhaps win money. But its soul destroying when you lose. You just think if i play another £100 i will win it back. But the thing is its like i switch off when i play. My mood changes if i lose a lot. As it would. And this is money that could be spent on other things. Things that create memorys. Holidays etc. Not wasting time hitting a button on your tablet or laptop. Staring at a screen. Even if you win. You know you will end up losing it all as i have done repeatedly.

I am going to use gamstop as i know i will end up going back if i dont. I am also pleased you are feeling better. I need to get to that place. You are again totally right about withdrawl. Its like i came home from work and all i could think about is slots.

Complete madness!!!

Let me know how you are getting on. Jill xxx
