Almost out of data and a bit short of funds so I will catch up with the diaries on Sunday when my allowance restarts.

Last bit of data until I post on Sunday.

Devastated by my gambling yesterday which left me with insufficient funds to cover bills.

I will shortly be going to bank to deposit the money my friend has lent me.

She is going to look after my bank card from now on.

Sorry to hear about your relapse, Stephen.

But today is a new day. A new start.

You have a new strategy in place and a new person to seek help from should your gambling urges return. It seems like your crux is the highstreet bookies so if I were you I’d be self excluding from them right away.

We’re all with you, Stephen.

Go again buddy and start your recovery again today.

Get back up, dust yourself off and go again mate. You find it hard like myself but it can be done and when you finally get the knack of it (for me it took two years of relapses), it feels great. I know u can do this.

Best wishes on your new journey. Keep that bank card firmly in your friend’s grip and out of reach. We can’t trust ourselves sometimes but great to have friends around to look out for us in our times of need. Take the help and vow you’ll never waste another penny. I too recently went back to gambling and I’m just one week ahead of you. Let’s keep it like that ! I look forward to following your Gamble free journey and wish you well

Sorry to read you stumbled. Glad to read you are trying something new this time around. You cannot rely on others long term though, maybe think of a few other techniques or hobbies to help combat gambling.

Not what you want to hear, but the bail out doesn’t help her or you. It relieves the crisis and keeps the gambling going that bit longer.

Changing your name and thread doesn’t help either, nor do positive words.  And if you want to gamble, you’ll get your card back or otherwise find a way.

Nothing changes if nothing changes. Try new tools.

It looks like willpower alone won't work for you either Stephen.
We just cannot be trusted with either money or Internet access.
If we want to succeed, one of them has to go depending on what people's choice of gambling is. Sending you strength to help you make the right choices. Courage to admit defeat and conviction to carry the blocks through.
It seems to be the only way to succeed this horrendous, heartless, addiction.
Sending you a hug to help you to get on the right path again Stephen.
All good wishes x

Good on you Stephen for never giving up giving up!!!

I am so proud of you, it took me many attempts myself and you were always there telling me to pick myself up and dust myself off and fight this with everything I have once more and then one day something finally clicked and I didn't gamble no more.

There you were telling me to fight it when I thought the fight had left me and yet it was always within.

I hope you are okay Stephen. I am soo proud of you. Never give up giving up. Much love x

Thank you for the posts on my diary. I am overwhelmed by the support, advice and encouragement from gamcare friends. My response to your kindness will be to fight this addiction with everything I've got. I now have two more strings to my bow which will strengthen my resolve and keep my feet firmly planted on the recovery road.

My good friend is holding on to my bank card for a year. I will just get money as and when I need it. It would be very sad to let her down after she has gone out on a limb to help me. I will be true to my word and I will not betray her trust in me.

Friday night I attended Gamblers Anonymous. I really enjoyed the meeting and will go every friday when possible. Friends I hadn't seen for some time where concerned for my welfare and gave me a warm welcome back. I found this quite heartwarming.

Thank you Merry Go Round for popping by my diary.

Just been reading your post on "fear". Very interesting and thought provoking. I suppose things that threaten our existence and quality of life should be feared. Problems arise when we become fearful of fear itself or if we become transfixed or immobilized through fear.

Now I am Stephen the Stoic, fear is not something I need concern my self with. Blissfully at peace with myself and the world around me.

I will post on my diary daily and interact with my gamcare friends.

On a Friday evening I shall attend Gamblers Anonymous and show solidarity with others in the group.

My friend has my bank card and I would not dream of letting her down with lies and deceit. She has, after all, put her trust in me and I will not betray that trust.

I will keep busy with Salsa on Tuesday, English on Thursday and every other day at the gym for swimming, yoga etc.

I am going to enjoy my recovery. I will find peace and contentment by giving my life some meaning. I will explore all avenues with common sense and reason.

Hi Stephen,

Saw the name change and feared the worst!  However, pleased to see that you're trying to change things a little, with handing over the bank card, and going to the meetings.  If you are at your most vulnerable around payday/pension day, why not arrange to see your friend that day, or plan something else to keep you busy?

I saw something on another thread where someone said "don't forget, you're paying for some fat cat's kids to go to private school" and really hit home (maybe because I have kids myself).  Managed to develop an intense dislike for the gambling industry, which works for me!

Keep cracking on, and keep trying to add to your defences.

Rich

Thank you for the posts on my diary.

Feeling very positive about being gamble free.

I have my gamcare friends plus I will be attending a GA meeting every Friday.

A trusted friend has my bank card.

Plenty of hobbies and interests to focus on.

It should be a walk in the park really. I have ticked all the boxes so it does look promising.

Like you I need just a little bit more than willpower as gambling has built very powerful structures over the years to get us back involved and need to stay super focused just to get through a day especially if we are alone or not feeling to good about life in general. So with 100 days to the World Cup we will take Englands 82 world cup song for our journeys. This time, more than any other time, this time, we’re going to find a way, find a way to get away, this time, getting it all together, we’ll get it right, this time, we’ll get it right. This time Stephen you can do it.

Thanks Smashed I am with you all the way. We will get it right this time.

The greatest England song of all time has got to be Vindaloo by Fat Les. Just been watching it on you tube and it is hilarious.

Wishing you well my friend...stephen

Not a bad choice Wilsy but it's all about spoilt rich footballers who let us down again and to be honest it is a bit boring.

Sadly the same applies to the 82 world cup song put forward by Smashed.

The judges have decided unanimously that Stephen the Stoic's choice is by far the best song. It is all about the supporters enjoying themselves and having some fun.

*****The winner is (drum roll) Vindaloo by Fat Les *****

Hello Diary. Pleased to say it's now a week since I last gambled and I am feeling quite positive.

A far cry from a week ago when I had just given my monthly works pension to the bookies.

I have just been listening to Heavy on my heart by Anastacia . The lyrics aptly describe how I felt following that crazy episode on the fobt machines.

Haha Stephen, your post made me laugh. Yeah we all just wake up sometimes feeling a little bit flat and we sigh, not wanting to work and the thought of staying in bed and sleeping until Midday appeals greatly this morning lol! Still another day gamble free come the end of today and another day closer to the weekend and closer to another payday, feels like I am wishing my life away at the moment!

Cheers Stephen!

Hi Stephen thanks for posting on my diary and for your kind words, I’ve slipped on three scratch cards but hated it to be honest it stole my peace of mind. Your doing great! So sorry to hear about your slip but it’s very hard isn’t it. Have you put that mini statement up as a reminder? Good idea it’s there then in black and white not to repeat. I feel so tired one minute I’m ok and so balanced next I’m fighting urges like no how. I really can’t make out what triggers it apart from escape and boredom which I’ve been working on. Anyway thanks again Stephen and many best wishes Lulu x

Hi Stephen

Keep going. Whenever you feel like placing that first bet remember that feeling we all know so well, the one of despair when we have wasted yet a load more money we cannot afford.

Wishing you all the strength in the world to beat this. We are addicts, we live with a couple of beasts inside us. One small one that will nag at us to place the next bet and one huge one that awakens when that first bet is placed. You are 8 days richer, for not betting.

10 days gamble free. Went to GA meeting last night which was good. Going to the gym later, will probably just have a swim and relax in the steam room and hot tub. Watching telly at my friends house tonight. She is being very kind in helping me out with my finances and I will not betray that kindness. She is keeping my card for a year and giving me funds as I need them.

Wishing everyone a good weekend.

Thank you for the kind words on my diary. I really appreciate the support, wisdom and solidarity which is shared by all of us.

I believe the two changes I've introduced will have a positive influence on my recovery. Attending GA friday nights is beneficial and my friend helping me manage my finances is a great help. Many friends are up ahead in the distance and feeling the benefits of a gamble free life. Now it's my turn and I aim to follow their excellent example.

Wishing everyone renewed confidence and courage during the coming week...stephen

Thank you for posting on my diary Christer and Bamb. I appreciate your support.

Today I am 14 days away from my last bet. Well settled on the recovery road and intend staying on it.

Our good friend Sharon will be 1 year gamble free on friday and I aim to follow her wonderful example.

A good friend is helping to manage my finances for a year,  I am attending GA and visit the diaries daily. I feel reasonably confident I can make a success of it this time.

Wishing everyone well...stephen
