I've just joined the site. Been gambling for several years now, managed 2 years gamble free but made a stupid decision last week and have been playing the roulette wheel in the local bookies.

New years day comes and I've reached rock bottom yet again another £100 down the drain.

It's time to stop so today is day one for me. Good luck to everyone else in the challenge let's hope we accrue lost of gamble free days between us all.

Day one for me.

I had a little blip - we have a tradition in my family that my mum bets on a horse on Boxing Day ... my family have a keen interest in horses and betting is never far away but is for fun and no-one has a gambling problem. Anyway, I put on the bet for her and it lost.  That would normally be it but I didn't want to walk away so I used my own money to put on another bet for her and it lost and the third bet won and I recouped the losses of previous bets and gave her the £40 winnings.  But I felt bad about it and I was partiality motivated to keep betting myself until I won so in good conscious I have to go back to day one again. Horse racing has never been a big problem for me so was easy to stop and have no urge to bet again but It was a blip and I feel it is right to reset the clock and start again. Anyway it will be easy to see my progress throughout the year as it will match the days elapsed in 2017 :) And on that note a Happy and gf NY to all.

I would like to be included in the 2017 challenge. After numerous attempts to quit for good since 2009-2010 I'm back on day 1 again. New Year new start can't be a bad thing!

Have installed an app today with a  timer on it indicating the days, hours, minutes and seconds since last gambled. A reminder of the time past will hopefully give me a positive feeling when checked.

Sick and tired of it all now. Time to stop for good and joining this challenge will give me a kick up the backside I need.

All the best to everyone already signed up

Hi, please could I join if it's not too late?

My problem is online gambling, slots and blackjack specifically. It's been on and off for about 18 months but I always go back to it.

It's day 1 for me. I've found this website a great support today. I even logged into a site but didn't do anything; so proud of myself!

Day 1 GF continues...

Checking in for the start of the challenge :)

23 days since my last bet :)

So glad to be part of this challenge from Day 1 ...I can now say I have not gambled this year...My aim is to be posting the same on 31st Dec :)

I joined this site 23 days ago in total despair, the support I've received has been life changing, just for today I am choosing not to gamble, just for today I am choosing Life!

Good evening guys

Can i join the challenge? Currently 2 days GF managed to do just over 100 last year but had a relapse in December and lost a fair chunk of money. Looking to kick this terrible addiction and a new year resolution sounds a good idea.

Thanks Dmr

Welcome to the 2017 challenge.

It's good to see so many signing up 47 members in total.

Firstly welcome back to returning members. And a huge welcome to new members also.

As a collective we have almost 19 years worth of non gambaling days between us.

A side note is if you haven't got your day counter active. Please state your days when checking in.

Hello boys and gals,

Awesome to see so many of you joining the challenge!

I read the entry and originally thought i fit the frame..however i lost quite a bit of sleep yesterday considering if I'm actually a fraud on here. Why i say this, - i did have a occasional scratchcard in my time away from slots. I know opinions differ on the subject and we all class "no gambling" in different terms knowing what actually hooking us on.

I wanted your opinion all. If this thread is strictly Zero tolerance, i would like to be removed.
I could stay on and reset my counter to 10 days or so, however i view recovery slightly differently and fighting the battle which consumed me completely and took my life away from me...of course I'm not saying i won't end up at the counter scratching the layers like zombie...anything can happen and addictions escalate as we all know. I am still learning why this kind of "normality" is drawing me to try luck..still..i don't know, i have a long way to go to understand it all better.

I am only honest and fully understand what is required for complete abstinence.
Your word is the last ☺

Thank you

Hi hopeful soul.
Recovery is how you see it.
And I would be happy for you stay as you are. As is stated there is no singular rule on the challenge apart from checking in weekly.
I'm happy to keep your day's as they are. I hope that helps

Thanks Deano,

I thought about it and decided to come off the challenge. It's not good "example" to follow & such " gambling" is exactly the main issue for some (as yourself). I truly don't want to mislead orhers.

Sorry for taking your time up.

Keep going everyone, don't believe what devil is whispering..it's empty promises.

All the best for the year all

Just wanted to say I think Sandra do whatever is going to help your recovery and if joining this challenge will help do it and if you are happy with the way you go about your recovery then you tick this off as a win. I buy the lotto now and then and I'm happy to say I'm gamble free for 200 odd days but I respect that others don't want to do anything which is why I just don't talk about it if I have bought a ticket. If I bought 40 tickets one day I'd say that's gambling but for me the odd ticket I'm happy with. We all need to do what makes us happy and what works for us. That's what I think anyway. Good luck to you whatever you decide but you've helped many on here (myself included) I'm sure we all on this challenge would be happy knowing we have helped you to. But you do whatever you feel will help your recovery.

Thank you so much 2ndApril17,

I am appreciating your thoughts and am absolutely fine with what you say ☺

I shall think about it all and come back on the challenge later in the year if feel it's right thing for me to do.

Again, sorry for my ever changing decisions, i have to do what i feel is right for me.

One day at a time
All the best

Sandra I'd say you're more than welcome to continue as long as you're being honest with yourself and if that means abstaining from slots that's fine.

Amazing achievement 1000 days plus. Congratulations.

i can second the need to stay focused though as i messed up after a straight run of 596 days gamble free and it was destroying to start again at day 1......so keep up the great work and methods.  i have just failed for the second time, this time @ 136 days as i thought i could trust myself to go just £100 and ended up in a few hours doing ten times that limit i'd set as lost my control on it as soon as i had a little taste. Back on day 1 again.

Third time lucky.....

Its a disappointment to lose such massive day counts and has a bad effect on life in the aftermath, such as getting credit and loans/overdrafts where you would not normally of had to, its best avoided in the first place.

As "triangle" says don't think you're cured as thats the crux.

All the very best to you, and i shall aim for your target once i get successfully through the 2017 challenge.

Best Regards

Hi all,

I would like to sign up to the challenge again. This will be the fourth time now and really need to start again and kick this habit once and for all. Things were looking up but started again about a week ago by opening up a new account online. I was attracted by the welcome bonus and unfortunately I found myself around £500 up. This started it all again and I've been betting on everything including basketball and ice hockey into the early hours of the morning. I'm now around £1000 down in a week and need to struggle through to pay day. This is no life! I was starting to feel good about things again but now I'm back to square one!

Anyway, one step at a time. I've been here many times before and know how much easier it gets with time.

Thanks to Dean0 and Oldham for running the challenge this year. Happy new year everyone and good luck!

Honk

Pretty much how you just used it if you go into a particular section say recovery diaries at the bottom of the page it will say start topic. And then the rest is self explanatory.

And welcome to the challenge
Most of all well done on your 99 days of abstinence.

Welcome to others to the challenge will be updated Monday and those who have recently joined will be added to the next list
